棕榈大道

The cabbage palms lining the walkway from Patterson Street to West Hall, now called Palm Avenue, were planted during President R.H. Powell’s administration between 1928 and 1931, at a cost of $5 each. A photograph in the 1931 edition of The Pinecone, the college yearbook, shows the palms standing just 4 feet tall at the time. While the 1928 plans didn’t mention a fountain, the 1931 photograph reveals a circular planting area where the fountain stands today.

At the next tour stop, in front of the Bailey Science Center’s main entrance, VSU’s longleaf pines will be highlighted.
