VALDOSTA — Jordan Marie Lowe of Macon, Georgia, is the recipient of the Spring 2025 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services at Valdosta State University.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to a high-performing graduating student in each of VSU’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Science and Mathematics, and College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Lowe will be recognized during VSU’s 239th Commencement at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, on the Main Campus Front Lawn. She will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education.

“Four words to sum up the experience — All Glory to God,” she said. “Without Him, no part of who I am today would be possible. I’m beyond thankful and grateful for this opportunity. Once I set out to accomplish this goal, I knew I would be able to obtain it. I shared my goal of being the banner carrier with my advisor and my family. They all believed I could do what I set out to do. I took it before God in prayer believing that He would deliver. I continued to work towards what I knew I could achieve. Wow! I can say He has continuously blown my mind. Achieving this honor at the end of my undergraduate studies was a great way to complete this part of my academic path at Valdosta State University. I am honored to lead my fellow graduates at the commencement ceremony.”

As a student at VSU, Lowe was an active member of Future Black Educators, the fundraising chair and photographer for Deep Release Poetry Society, and a tutor for the on-campus Sullivan Literacy Center. She joined the 1906 Society to support future Blazers and volunteered to represent her college at open house events. She also served the community as a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Valdosta.

Lowe’s commitment to academic, leadership, and service excellence resulted in her earning the Highest Academic Achievement Award and the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Elementary Education Award for the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, as well as the Ralph B. Johnson Scholarship and her hometown’s Jean H. Stephens Educational Fund Scholarship. She was a Jennett Scholar, a Georgia HOPE Scholar, and an eight-time Dean’s List honoree.

After graduation Lowe will continue her education at VSU and pursue a Master of Education in Elementary Education.

“Ultimately, I plan to explore the continuum of many educational professions,” she shared. “I want to create something of my own where kids of all ages and backgrounds can come and have a safe space to call their own. I want to use my education to help teach and inspire the upcoming generations.”

Her supportive family includes parents Willie and Rhonda Lowe and sister Jada Lowe. “Without their unwavering support in all that I do, I would not have been able to achieve what I have thus far.”
