VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Department of Chemistry and Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) will join the South Georgia Regional Library System for Family Fun Night: Learn More About Energy from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. 免费入场。

Hosted by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Library, located at 300 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Family Fun Night: Learn More About Energy will feature a number of exciting and educational presentations, as well as interactive and hands-on activities. 与会者将了解电池是如何工作的，为什么热会融化冰，冷有多冷，如何制作冰淇淋等等。

According to the United States Department of Education, only 16 percent of American high school seniors are proficient in mathematics and interested in a STEM career. In November 2009 President Barack Obama launched Educate to Innovate, an initiative designed “to move American students from the middle to the top of the pack in science and math achievement over the next decade,” according to a White House press release. 他还呼吁美国在未来10年内培养、招聘和留住10万名STEM教师，并要求高校再培养100万名STEM专业的学生。
