VSU Investigates Unauthorized Computer Access Incident
VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University officials are investigating an incident of unauthorized access to a computer server including student and faculty social security numbers and grades. The breached server contained employee and student information (updated 2-18-10)
Joe Newton, director of Information Technology, reported the discovery on Dec. 11, 2009 of unauthorized access to the server. The breach dated back to Nov. 11, 2009. An initial investigation has not yet determined if any personal data was accessed or transferred. The breached server has been secured and removed from the network.
Valdosta State's University Police and Division of Information Technology are conducting an investigation with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
