VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University's James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education awarded its best and brightest students at an annual awards ceremony this April.
The following students were awarded:
Charles Brown, Adult and Career Education/Technical Trade and Industrial, was named Outstanding Undergraduate Student
Heather Bitting, Adult & Career Education-Business Education, received the Excellence in Student Teaching Award
Amy Braswell-Walden, Technical Studies BAS Adult & Career ED, was named the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in the Bachelors of Applied Science program
Robert Canfield, Middle Grades, reading and Deaf Education, was named the Outstanding Student Teacher of Spring ’09
Laura Conger, Communications Sciences and Disorders, received the Sonny Martin Scholarship
Mandi Corbett, Secondary Education-English, was named Outstanding Student Teacher SED - English
Erin T. Crawford, Early Childhood Education, was named Outstanding Early Childhood Special Education Student 2008-09
Ryan Dixon, Counseling and Psychology, was named Outstanding Student in School Counseling
Amanda Gaither, Reading, was named Outstanding Student in Reading
Christopher Griggs, Bachelor in Psychology, was named Outstanding Student with a B.A. in Psychology
Farran Hasenfelt, Master of Arts with a Major in Teaching in Serious Emotional Disturbance, was honored as the Outstanding Student in the Master of Arts cohort
Derald C. Jones, Doctor of Education, was named the Outstanding Doctoral Student
Emmelyn Johnson, Instructional Technology in Education Technology Applications, was awarded the Blanton-Price Scholarship for Instructional Technology Students
Kay. F. Nettles, Early Childhood Educational Masters Program, received the Manelle Jeter Scholarship
Amy Pilgrim, Secondary Education-Math, was named the Outstanding Secondary Education Student Teacher
Angelique Walker, Communications Sciences & Disorders, received the Student Teacher of the Year award for Fall 2008
Elizabeth Raque, Early Childhood Masters, was honored as an Outstanding Graduate Student
Brett Rogers, Middle Grades Education, was named the Outstanding Middle Grades Education Student Teacher
Susan Schools, Adult & Career ED and Business Education Masters, was named Outstanding Masters Student of Business Education
Tonya Scott, Secondary Education- English, was named Outstanding Student Teacher in Secondary Education
Charlene D. Watson, Adult and Career Education, was honored as an Outstanding Masters Student
Melissa Shay Stanley, Office Administration and Technology, was honored as both the Outstanding Office Administration and Technology Student and the Outstanding Adult and Career Education Student
Jeremy Scott, Adult and Career Education and Business Education, was awarded for Excellence in Student Teaching
Jena Blair, Business Education, received the National Business Education Association Award of Merit
Jenny Abercrombie, Education Leadership, received the Outstanding Certification Student Award
Stephanie Roberts, Early Childhood/Special Education General Curriculum, was named the Outstanding Special Education/Early Childhood Student Teacher
Stacy Lutz, Education Leadership, was named the Outstanding Education Leader Specialists Graduate Student
Marci Garner, Business Education - Adult and Career Education, was awarded the Saralyn Sammons and Catherine Hensley scholarships
Dorea Hardy, Masters of Education in Instructional Technology, was named the Instructional Technology for Outstanding Masters Student
Tisha F. Griner, Instructional Technology, was awarded the Blanton-Price Scholarship for Instructional Technology Students

Sarah Smith, Kinesiology, was named the Outstanding Senior Exercise Physiology Major
Carrie Rahn, Athletic Training, was named the Outstanding Senior in Athletic Training Major and received the Outstanding Senior Award
